Super sports car in a class of its own
The first pictures of the Zonda R have arrived. What can be seen is an impressive super sports car built from the very finest materials and which, at 1, 460, 000 euros, is competing in a very exclusive price category.

Horacio Pagani's Italian company has released the first pictures of the Zonda R - the racing version of the Zonda F. The Italians have succeeded in creating a real high-tech projectile: Every bolt is made of titanium, the driver is surrounded by a carbon fiber-titanium monocoque and a safety cell made of chrome-molybdenum hardened stainless steel. An absolutely exclusive car: Only 16 units of the Zonda R will be built, 15 are available for purchase - though not necessarily by everyone.

The price level of the Italo racer breaks all bounds: 1, 460, 000 euros, has to come out of one's own petty cash. That's a lot more expensive than a Bugatti Veyron. But in return, the buyer gets almost Formula 1 values and is prepared for every traffic light race.

Pagani Zonda R

The Zonda R promises Formula 1-level performance. After 2.7 seconds, the speedometer shows triple-digit figures.
The racing flounder (overall height 1.14 meters) is powered by a monstrous six-liter V12 from AMG-Mercedes. The unit, which is also used in the Mercedes CLK-GTR, delivers an impressive 750 hp to the rear axle at 7500 rpm, with a maximum torque of 710 Nm. This brute force is brought to the asphalt by Pirelli P Zero Zonda R slicks. At the front, the rollers (255/35) are mounted on 19-inch "APP" rims, while 335/30 rubber is fitted to 20-inch wheels at the rear. The whole projectile weighs only 1070 kg and accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds. If you fully engage the last of the six gears using the paddle shifters and a maximum delay of 20 milliseconds in the sequential transmission, you can reach a low-flying speed of more than 350 km/h. Provided you have the necessary courage, of course.
