It is actually pretty easy, all I did was model half the plane in groups (eg, fuselage, wing, engine, etc are put into groups to be easily movable and customizable.) With the aid of blueprints/schematics loaded as a background as a reference. After I was satisfied with the model. I merged all the groups into a single model, made a duplicate of it, flipped it horizontally and merged the two halves into a full plane. Hope that helps.
