Introduction

GTA3 Audio Editor Allows you to easy import and export wave files from GTA3 audio libraries. Which is useful if you want to change any sound effects in the game, or just nick some to use in something else :) (urm, but I think they are all property of rockstar so don’t use them for anything you shouldn’t ;)).

About This Documentation

This might not be the most complete documentation. But it should cover all of the functions of the editor and how to use them, if you have any amendments or additions that you would like to add to this document please email me.

How To Use

The editor works in much the same way as the IMG file editors that are floating about. The layout is very similar and is very easy to use. Use Open from the file menu to open the Audio library index file, which you will find in your gta3 audio folder. Once this has been opened you can play any sample by double clicking it or, auto cycle though the sounds using the cycle button. The cycle button will begin to cycle from the current selected record and will continue to the end of library. This is useful if you are searching for a sample. Press the cycle button again to stop cycling.

Exporting

You can export any record you want to disk by selecting it and choosing Export from the Edit menu or pressing the export toolbar button. The file will be exported in wave format.

Replacing

You can replace a sample in the library with an external wave file, to do this select the sample you want to replace and the click on the replace toolbar button or select replace from the edit menu. You will be requested to select a wave file to use, once this has been selected the audio library will be rebuilt (if auto rebuild is selected from the options menu). When rebuilding is complete you can check that the sample was add correctly by pressing the play button.

Rebuilding

There are two modes for rebuilding.

Auto rebuilding - when auto rebuilding is selected the library will be modified after each replace command.

User controlled rebuilding - When auto rebuilding is disabled then user has to select rebuild from the file menu. This should be used to replace multiple samples at the same time. Note - after replacing samples it is recommended that you rebuild the library before trying to play back samples, as the data will be incorrect.

Unknown1 and Unknown2

Each sample has two unidentified variables unknown1 and unknown2. I think they control sample looping in game, but I'm not sure. I've made it so that the user can change these variables. To do this simply select the sample you wish to change and alter unknown1 and unknown2 on the right. Once you have edited the variables select rebuild from the file menu to save the changes you have made.
